The Vegetable God

Original Title :  Kerete
Artist :  Belen Beyza Kurt
Painted by : Yip

True story of the photo : (written by the artist herself) On a usual rainy saturday in Berkeley, i went to farmers' market. I saw these beautiful organic carrots, bought a bunch. I went home, directly to the kitchen. When I took them out of its brown bag, once again I fell in love with the color. Saturday dinner side dish, roasted carrots. Deliciousness.

My story for the photo : Long long time ago, people were told about a very impressive legend. The hometown of this legend was a very very distant world in which nobody used to live. Because everything in this piece of land were extremely big and it was impossible for other living creatures to deal with them. One day, Yakamiskonatatiborazisu and his friend Ko heard about the legend. The legend was about a carrotic mountain on which the control room of the universe exists. Yakamiskonatatiborazisu (whose the only child of his parents, so that he had to have a long name, because his parents had a lot of spare time to use his full name) and Ko (whose the 23th son of his family, that's why he had a very short name, otherwise his parents were having trouble while calling all the children to dinner) were members of the mountain climbing club of their school. After they learned everything about the legend, they decided to travel to this utopic world and reach the carrotic mountain. But the mountain didn't have connections with the ground, it was floating! So, either they had to fly or jump to get on to it. Their dream was to enter the control room and change only a few things. There were 5 different funnels on the carrotic mountain and each of them were representing something very important for the universe. Any change made by the control room would change the production and distribution of the funnel, and of course this was equal to ruin the regular universe system. But, Yakamiskonatatiborazisu was a very ambitious young boy and he was very popular in the world he lives, which was called Stisticokor. With his tiny little stick legs, he was climbing to the highest mountains, he was able to catch the fastest animal, and also he was singing the well known songs in Alice Russell style. Because of all these and more, Yakamiskonatatiborazisu was planning to make some little touches to the universe. Ko, on the other hand, was a very scientific boy and he was building a space cloud for them to travel. As they heard, the only couple who made it up there used a space cloud but they fell down while trying to jump on the mountain. Yakamiskonatatiborazisu and Ko made a plan to jump on the closest mountain and then to the carrotic mountain. Ko was going to hold the backup rope while Yakamiskonatatiborazisu was climbing. It seems unbelievable but they did it...we won't give you the details like what were these funnels controlling or what Yakamiskonatatiborazisu and Ko changed...the only thing we can say is that you are looking at a very very important piece of art. This painting was performed by one of the MASA (Maternity Aerobic and Spinning Administration) members who was passing by...to keep this moment eternal.

Little Fatal Baby Dreams

Original Title :  Pink Laundry
Artist :  Katerina Orfanou
Painted by : Yip

True story of the photo : The photo is called the pink laudry and I just took it one afternoon on my way to go out. The building is very close to mine, the pink pallette caught my eye, I smiled, made the circle arround the block, parked and click!

My story for the photo : Once upon a time, there was a shirt living in Athens. He was dark blue with light green stripes. The territory he was  staying was not so nice, there were a lot of immigrants and they were not elegant. Each time he was driving crazy because of this lack of good taste. Pink skirts with orange belts, brown tops with black dots...They were all irresistable for him. He wanted to move somewhere else but the rents were so high, especially around his favorite area; Plaka. He had a part-time job on a tent. Clothes were working on tents these days. The job was about to make the  best combination with the laundries by staying hanged down on tents. This branch was born after an installation made by a Greek pyhsics teacher years ago. As the clothes realized it's an easier job than anything else, they created an union for that. Anyway, their office was in Ilioupoli, so that he had to take metro. One day, as he was going to work, a red dress got into the same wagon with him. Aki  (that was his name, he was a tiny little baby so his parents called him like that for one year, until he was baptised and decided to name him like that) lost himself when he saw her, his tongue locked, his eyes blushed. She was his dream cloth! He quickly daydreamed of their future life, the little blue son with red collar and green striped purple daughter...Red Dress was reading her book and she was not aware of him. When the train arrived Dafni, Red Dress put her book in her bag. She got ready to get off. Aki had to wait until his station but he couldn't let Red Dress just disappear. Of course he went after her. Like a stalker, he chased her all way long. As she arrived her workplace, which was another tent of course, Aki sat on the pavement across the street and watched her while she was working. He kept doing this for weeks, he got fired because of not even showing up, he was broke and almost going to lose his house. But love and Red Dress was much more important than all these. She was not aware of him, and unlike the shirts and shorts, she was able to work all year because she could be combined with sweaters and socks. Aki, on the other hand, was an 'only summer' worker. He was not used to cold but he was sitting on the pavement to watch her. Finally he got a very bad flu. It turned into tuberculosis, and unfortunately there was not any possible treatment for clothes back then. As the Red Dress worked, Aki died slowly while loving her...

Pretty Me Pretty You

Original Title : Evcilik
Artist : İzlem Genç
Painted by : Yip

True story of the photo : Me and İzlem were in a village called Kozlu last week. There exists a cinema academy which İzlem attented for their 'creative producing' course and I went for holiday. We were having breakfast and dinner at the garden with an open kitchen, and one night we found these pair of seats at the corner. It felt like someone was punished and somebody made him/her sit like that; face towards the wall. And İzlem decided to shoot a photo of me while sitting there. But the little lamp on the wall was making a disturbing flicker, so I borrowed Nil's sweater in order to cover it. It was a bit high, and we all know that I'm short...so I was rising on my fingertips and İzlem just shot this one. Yes, it's me :)

My story for the photo : Yip was a tiny little baby when she was born. By saying tiny, we really mean tiny. And also she was really dark, but as she grew up, her color became normal (after a few days as they say). She was a very cute little girl, until her 6. After that age, she started to think that she has nothing to do with beauty but she was smart (she still is!). All through her elementary school years, she kept believing that she was ugly. Although having a boyfriend -even at pre-school!- she never stopped thinking like that. Then she went to middle school and her mind didn't change. But...as she became a high school student, everything changed. She started to look better, even though she had brackets on her teeth, she was pretty at last! And her college years were really so good, she was very very very very dressy. It was unbelievable but she really was...and she was upsetting male kind...so much. Thing she was doing never been on purpose, but somehow she was always making them sad. She was harsh ok, and not so romantic in daily basis but so what?!!!! Then she fell deeply in love..eh, she gained a little weight after the first year of her relationship, because 'the boyfriend' was making her to eat pizza kind of food everyday :) People say that she made him unhappy from time to time after their on-going relationship but he pulled her down too!!!! Then, as she moved to Istanbul and started to work, she gained a lot weight (and also some medicines that she had to use helped this) and she again stopped to liking herself. But, a few months ago, something happened. Nobody knows what is that, but she now looks better. We guess she grew up, accepted that she's not a child but woman, and her look deals out with that but no one knows the exact reason...And also, now she makes male kind happy again, she is still not that romantic in common understanding but she has her own ways to show her love yani! To summarize, Yip's journey...snail to skouliki, skouliki to butterfly....:)))

Women Ruin Everything

Original Title : Beauty's Redemption
Artist : Anargyros Drolapas
Painted by : Yip

True story of the photo : (written by the artist himself)

Eyes Open Description:

The photo is from an exhibition called: "The gathering", where Greek and foreign artists respond with posters, portraying both their physical and metaphysical relationship with Greece. The poster is original work of Istvan Laszlo, with the title: Diadem

Eyes Closed Description:

It is like the movie: " The Shawshank Redemption". Behind that poster is the last exit. Our last exit. From a world full of violence, lies and ugliness. If you want to escape to a strange new world full of beauty. If you want to unlock that exit door, all you have to do is to kiss the boy on his paper lips with your eyes closed.

My story for the photo : Long long time ago, there was a village at the top of İda Mountain. This little village was consisted of curly haired people who were extremely beautiful. Nobody knew ehy they eere that much pretty but some was assuming that once a God arrived there and made love with the most beautiful girl of the village. But that was only an assumption, there was not anything to prove that...A boy called Diademonicus opened his eyes after the Big Storm. The storm was called the Big Storm because it ruined everything in the village including the economical standing of fishes. When he was born, midwife of his screamed in a wide range because he had a red point on his forehead. That was very unusual in the village of pretty ones. Ah, by the way, they were immortal...in their own criterias of course. Diademonicus grew up under the sad looks of the village people and his parents. He couldn't understand the reason behind it until he reached 21. The age of marriage in this village was 21 and when he turned 21 nobody got in the line for him. That was the trigger for Diademonicus...He finally examined himself in front of a mirror and decided that people without a the red mole deserve beauty. This idea made him extraordinarily angry and he started to follow and kill all the pretty mortal women. After a while, this no name murders became popular and world people started to worry. Police opened up many files, a lot of officers and detectives went after the murderer who they call 'Extreme Gentle', but nobody succeeded. One day, a young women, a very very pretty young women met Diademonicus in a dark street. He was about to kill her but she had a perfectly pretty face and look that he had never seen. He couldn't put his knife up...as he was running away, a man standing at his balcony saw him and called the police. The great operation got started and finally he got caught. A breaking news on the most popular newspaper of the world was published on that day...this is a copy of it found last week by the archeologists.

You Can Be Loved By Anyone

Original Title : Elizabeth
Artist : Bertan Dobada
Painted by : Yip

True story of the photo : Please visit this link and read the true story by me real time. 'Old lady' in the text is her.
http://a-thin-aa.blogspot.com/2010/09/day-6-episode-1-bertyip-around.html
And there exist some details of course. We first saw her on the road to Akropoli, she was walking slowly. Bert was shooting some painters on that road so I was just hanging around. Her blue dress and smiling face made me watch her for a very long time. Then Bert and me went to have sangria, to somewhere in Plaka. She came by...sat the table behind us and we both were dying to take a photo hers. We were making plans on asking her, but the time arrived by itself. Bert and her, caught an eye on each other, she smiled, Bert took the photo...everybody was happy!

My story for the photo :  Under seas, there was a kingdom. The King had 18 daughters and 9 sons. Number 15 was called 'Vie'. When she was born, The King felt something different; a butterfly flying in his belly, a honey bee wondering around...that's why he named her 'Vie' after his favorite song sang by the woman he used to love. Yes, he was in love with a woman who was living on earth. She was a well known singer and he saw her when he went on earth in his youth. He had so little time to stay on earth, but he spent every single minute of his time by listening to her. She was not aware of him, because he was so little. Sea people were shrinking after leaving the water, so that he was a little tiny man who cannot be recognized by anyone. After his trip back, he kept thinking about her but there wasn't any way for him to be with her back then. His parents made him marry to another sea girl, have children and become The King. But his love always lived in his heart, that's why he sent an army of his own to protect her and built a tiny castle which will follow her all the time. She never knew that, but he kept his eye on her with the hope that she'll find out about him one day and accept to be a sea person...

Dark Darker Make Me Lighter

Original Title : Never Again. Never Say Never.
Artist : Filippa Martha Christofalou
Painted by : Yip

True story of the photo : (written by the artist herself) This photo could be an ode to Hitchcock... Always afraid of his work... as a child i mean. The story of this pic is very ordinary...in a way...I was
working all day as always, and it was about 5:30 at evening, and i had a coffee break for about...2 minutes! I got off my car and was ready to enter Starbucks...and then! Above my head... was a Hitchcock scene! I couldn't resist! I let all of my bags down and started shooting, and that's the result. It's an ode to me to fears we all have...

Got my point of view?

My story for the photo :  Colors were living in a world in which they were allowed to marry each other and also have children. Many many years ago, Blue's parents died in a washing accident, so his grandfather Purple took him under his wings. As Blue grew up, he turned into a very handsome young boy. All the girls in his high school had a crush on him, except White...who was a mysterious girl came from another town. She was staying in a private dormitory, nobody knew who her parents where and she was very smart, brilliant, hard working and pretty. There were other extremely pretty girls around, like Red, Pink and Orange but White used to have something different. A pure look, a restful posture...Blue was keeping an eye on her but she never seemed interested in him. She was spending time on her own, and Blue was dying to talk to her. One day, he suddenly appeared on her way and asked her out. White, of course, refused him but Blue never gave up. He kept bothering White, just for a drink or anything else. She insisted on turning him down but Blue was deeply in love, so it wasn't possible for him to move on. Finally, he went in front of the dormitory she used to stay and poured himself on the floor...with a phrase; 'I'm dark...I'm getting darker. You're my light, make me lighter.' Everything started like that...White accepted all his requests from then on, and the greatest love of Sky + Clouds began. Life was perfect at the beginning, they were the sweetest couple of the Color World and their work around sky was impressive. They had 3 children named as Rain, Snow and Fog. On a day of many days, a new color visited the town. Her name was Gray. She was an attractive and talented woman, but her inner self wasn't that bright. She used to get jealous with all the happy couples, especially if the husband fits into her taste! As she saw Blue at the marketplace, the decision was already maden. First she rented a place for herself, which is very close to Blue's/White's house. Then she visited White, presenting herself as the new neighbor and it all got started...Gray was very professional, White was so pure, and Blue was a male at the end. He started to pay attention to Gray, and by baby steps Gray ruined their happiness. White was so sad, and she moved into her son Snow's place...after a while Gray stepped in her place and been Blue's new wife. The Clouds turned into gray, and because Blue is under Gray's control, also the Sky turned into Gray. White's kids Rain and Snow were really angry at their father but it was impossible for them to resist Gray's power, she made them work harshly almost everyday. Fog was a little boy back then, so that he liked Gray. He kept doing what she was saying, and Gray was sending him to everywhere like a slave. As Gray took the lordship of Sky, she put Rainbow and all the other colored creatures sent by other colors to Sky Family under control. She broke Rainbow into pieces, she tied all the little birds on steel sticks...and she let her own pets hung around like gray-black crows, eagles...As Blue realized what he had done, that White was his true love, he tried to fight Gray to take everything back but it wasn't that easy. All his struggles let him down and he finally asked Humans' help. The Leader Human felt so sad for them, and he told Blue that only a Child can solve his problem. Blue stayed on Earth for a while just to find a Child who can help him and he did eventually...the solution for all his problems, the hope for the old colorful days of Sky, the little hands that might free White's soul and send away all the fears was named as 'Flipper'!

A Girl With Purple Sunglasses

Original Title : First photo without a title! (and this is a nice title)
Artist : Katerina Orfanou
Painted by : Yip

True story of the photo : It was September 11th, 2010. The day before my flight back to Istanbul. Although it was sunny all previous 8 days, it was cloudy on that day. I met Katie around my favorite area Plaka and we went for shopping. First, we bought a little 'bağlama' for my dad, and some unnecessary stuff from Mastiha Shop. Then the time for souvlaki came and I ordered my souvlaki in Greek for the first time! When it started to rain, Katie opened up her umbrella which has little golfishes on it (painted by me) and we tested it under the water. Yes, I painted well...the only damage it had happened in my luggage. I've never been in Gazi (by foot) until that day, so we spent some time around in order to take some photos including a 'Suret' for Bertan. Also we met a baby dog there, we ran with him, made him run after the baloons...Because I used to be a kid back then (I'm a woman now!), she bought me a baloon-maker toy. Of course I was stopping almost in every street and pop-up baloons...this photo is taken on the 3rd parallel of EverGreen. And yes, I always remember everything!

My story for the photo :  I'm so sorry for not coming up with another story but I'm already in this one! The story is me, myself. It was one of my happiest days, because I loved (and still do) being in Athens and I had Katie with me all day; no work, no baby parties, no family dinners, no U2 concert or anything but her orange shoes! :)

Fish Wars For Green

Original Title : Shores - Like heavy rain or the sea
Artist : Petros Koublis
Painted by : Yip

True story of the photo : If I were writing an English workbook, I would definitely add a portrait of Petros and define him by the phrase; 'Petros is a very talented young boy who has a Santa beard'. :) He almost never has stories about his photos, so let me introduce him. I met him two years ago, but not in person! My graduation project -a short movie- was in progress, and as usual many ideas were floating in my mind. Then I saw one his photos, (named as 'glance') and asked him to use it as one one my locations (yes, I'm into post production, so a photo can be a location! and of course we had common friends, I didn't find him from a photo-dating site!).  Everything started like that...the photo couldn't take place in my movie because I again changed my mind and shot something crazy but it induced me and Petrosi (that's how I call him) become friends. On my second visit to Athens, I finally met him and convinced myself that he is consisted of bones and flesh like us. Before that, I was thinking he must be a kind of holy power because he keeps writing like a book, always with article works and feels serious even when he is joking. He's not like that if you're sitting next to him, but if you're just reading texts written by him, it's guaranteed for you to feel you're talking to a lecturer. :)

My story for the photo :  There was a girl with brown eyes who always wanted to have green eyes. She was so sad because of having brown eyes, because she was thinking that if she had green eyes; world would be more colorful. She was trying to color her life by drawing with rainbow colors, trying to catch up with the green eyed ones. Once she even put colored contact lenses but that had no effect...In years, she learned how to color everything she's into, including objects, texts, people...but her desire of green eyes never left her. For that reason, she unconsciously fell in love with green eyed guys all the time. Maybe she was believing that might lead her to have green eyes. The life she created for herself was very colorful indeed, people around her were sometimes surprised at her colored understanding and vision. But that wasn't enough for her, she was still insisting on her thought that being green eyed will make her perceive everything much more colorful. One day, she met a blue eyed fish. The fish told her if she hang up with them under the sea, after a while she'll have colored eyes. 'Which color?' she asked, 'probably green in your case' the fish replied and she dived deep under with the fish. Some days, some months, and maybe some years passed...and the fish said that she completed the process, she now has colored eyes and free to go. Because there weren't any mirrors under the sea, it wasn't possible for her to check but with a great enthusiasm she swam back on earth. As she looked at herself through a mirror, she saw a pair of blue eyes looking at her back! They weren't green, her eyes were blue but colored anyway! And there was something else, which the fish never mentioned; her eyelids were fishes! She didn't care these both and went out to observe everything in color finally. The world was different now, there were huge buildings, a lot of sad people, and everywhere was gray including the sky. She was surprised, but thought it will take time for her to adjust. As she walked around, nothing changed, but some visions started to came in front of her eyes...all the bad things that she was trying to avoid before; like crimes, poverty...when the vision of a war with little soldiers came along, she tried to close her eyes in order not to see it but she couldn't! Her eyes were wide open and nothing she tried was working. Then she remembered something her grandma used to say when she was a kid; 'What are you looking at without blinking like a fish?!'.

Another Day On Land

Original Title : You can knock on a deaf man's door forever
Artist : Anargyros Drolapas
Painted by : Yip

True story of the photo : (written by the artist himself) This photo is from a dance-performance of Dimitris Papaioannou, with the title: "Primal Matter".
A performance from a iconoclast  director (and dancer) that always "feeds" us with great artistic instances. This time it was the hair of a woman from the audience that seem to threaten our heroe. Her hair as flames, or hands, trying to touch him. To bring him down. But he, as a new Zorba will find a way to escape, and sail the seas once again.
“This is true happiness: to have no ambition and to work like a horse as if you had every ambition. To live far from men, not to need them and yet to love them. To have the stars above, the land to your left and the sea to your right and to realize of a sudden that in your heart, life has accomplished its final miracle: it has become a fairy tale.”
― Nikos Kazantzakis, Zorba the Greek

My story for the photo : Once upon a time, on a land with many daily and social problems, a man used to live with his life-long obstacles. Talking, eating, breathing, walking, thinking and being were only a few points of his disturbance of existence. But the greatest of all was his clumsiness when he was trying to love something/someone. He had his own description for himself, and he was never letting anyone to see any other way. On the day he realized that another thing - which was a 'she'- was about to describe him with some other words he never made go with him, he suddenly and quickly and cruelly and happily and cowardly and maybe right maybe wrongly zeroed both of their binary codes. The only bug left after this process was a letter 'C', with all the plugs and knowledge. Let ''C'' be.

Adventures of Bertan Munchausen

Original Title : Karabasan
Artist : Bertan Dobada
Painted by : Yip

True story of the photo : I remember the day it was taken. We went to see 'Van Gogh Alive' to Istanbul Modern with Bert on that day but the entrance was extremely crowded so we did what we do as usual when things like that happen; decided to go somewhere to eat! While we were walking to Karaköy, he looked back for some reason and noticed the character's of this photo. He told me to wait to let them walk in front of us, we slowed down, they were way too slower than us, we hid ourselves into the first street...but women were like snails. As they passed, finally, we followed them but Bert kept saying that we're not that close, we're not that close, we're not that close...Then he made a sudden attack, (took 5 or 6 steps which are equal to my 15 to 20 steps!) ran towards them and shot the frame almost on back of their necks. And we moved on, like it never happened.

My story for the photo : The country we live in now allows more women walk in these scarfs. If I walk while looking at my phone, purse, or somewhere else and then I see the 'scarf-ed ones' all of a sudden, this is what I feel...a huge scream without any noise. Isn't it scary for a kid to face it suddenly? :)
